Eventually, the band dropped out and Scott stopped singing, but audience members kept clapping the song’s beat and singing its key line — “Do you understand what you feel inside? It said a lot about Scott, who also performed at NJPAC Thursday night, that she was willing to end the show with a new song that was strikingly different from the neo-soul tales of love and loss that made up most of the setlist. A 35-year-old Philadelphia native who lives in Mount Laurel, Scott has one of the strongest, most commanding voices in R&B, and an open-minded approach to music. Scott always comes across as a complex person — romantic but realistic, spiritual but also unapologetically sexual.
