Now that the conversion to a fancy new editorial computer system at the Erie Times-News is complete, my joy is tinged with a pang or two of nostalgia. The old Times-News building at East 12th and French streets, with its first-floor composing room and second-floor newsroom, was my first newspaper home. My father, Gene Cuneo, the sports editor, restored the good feeling in the room by announcing, “Don’t worry. As everyone filed out of the newsroom, I continued sitting at my desk, banging out track and field results on an old Royal typewriter.
