Prime time, Big on Big, featuring two coaches in Mack Brown and Mike Leach who are being toasted in every corner of this state as geniuses. He is at Texas, which is considered the kind of university you marry, whereas Tech, judging by how many people have Leach bolting ASAP, obviously is seen as that guy you date until something else better comes along. As Dwain Price, the S-T ’s man in West Texas, noted, Washington state scribes even crashed the Big 12 coaching call this week to learn about this crazy pirate “stuck” in Lubbock. What a slap in Leach’s face and Graham Harrell’s and a whole load of players who came before him, pretending what has been built in Lubbock under Leach is merely a feeding ground for big-boy programs rather than a big boy in and of itself. The same people who love to trot out his love affair with pirates and his Facebook page where he lists “throwing stuff” as a hobby and his crazy, hilarious interviews where he does stuff like provide dating tips for young college coeds as proof of his quirkiness forget that this might be why he actually likes and wants to stay at Tech.
