Ferguson, bound for Framingham State College to earn her teaching degree, and Courtemanche represented two of the 348 seniors who received their diplomas. Senior Class Vice President Elizabeth Setterberg told her classmates that they still have time to figure out what to do later in life, one piece of advice she collected from students and staff and wrote down to mark the occasion. After salutatorian Nicholas Smith spoke about the pitfalls the Class of 2007 had managed to avoid, Valedictorian Kathleen Gilsenan parodied a blonde joke that managed to fit in sexism and hair color discrimination in one punchline. Gilsenan, who has long blond hair, said she had experienced stereotyping, but drew her classmates’ attention to those who had defied expectations, such as then-unknown jockey Calvin Borel riding Street Sense to victory in the Kentucky Derby.
